Piotr Prochera – baritone singer, born 1980 in Toruń (Poland), originally studied violin before finishing voice academic studies at the Poznań Conservatory.
He was the winner of the special prize at the Wloszakowice Voice Competition in 2002 and at the Warsaw Lied Competition in 2005.
He participated in many master classes led by artists such as by Helena Lazarska, Rolando Panerai, Jevgenij Nesterenko, Peter Tschaplik, Ernst Haefliger, Peter Schreier and Dietrich Fisher-Dieskau.
Piotr Prochera joined the Franz Liszt Academy Opera Studio at the German National Theater in Weimar with the 2005/06 season and in addition passed his concert examination in lied under Prof. Mario Hoff. At the begining 2007/08 season, the young baritone singer became regular member of the music theatre ensemble of the German National Theater.
His repertoire meanwhile includes many important roles of his genre such as Guglielmo [Così fan tutte], Figaro [Le nozze di Figaro], Don Giovanni, Papageno [The Magic Flute], Dr. Falke [The Bat], Peter broom-maker [Hansel and Gretel], Mr. Fluth [The Merry Wives of Windsor], Harlequin [Ariadne on Naxos], Zar Peter I [Zar und Zimmermann], Marcello [La Bohème], Donner [Das Rheingold], Demetrius [A Midsummer Night's Dream], Ned Keane [Peter Grimes] or Sir Robert Cecil [Gloriana].
Prochera also performs in the contemporary opera in roles such as Benito Repollo in “Das Wundertheater” by Hans Werner Henze or most recently as Il Malaspina in “Luci mie traditrici“ by Salvatore Sciarrino. He sang the title role in the premiere performance of “Simon, the Chosen“ by Isidora Žebeljan.
Since the 2008/2009 season he is a member of the opera ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier, Gelsenkirchen.
